Abstract

|
Flunarizine(Sibelium") capsules have been approved for use in the cerebrovascular disorder management and vestibular disorder management. The dampening of vestibular stimulation by flunarizine may be due to an inhibition of the influx of calcium ion into the cells of the crista ampullaris. We measured the clinical therapeutic effects and side effects of oral flunarizine on 32 patients suffering from dizziness and tinnitus at the out-patient clinic of otolaryngology, St. Mary´s Hospital. The dosage was 2 capsules of 5mg flunarizine one time a day for 2 months. We assessed the effectiveness by the subjective decision in 4 different levelsi excellent, good, fair, iadequate and the cases with excellent and/or good responses to the drug were scored as effective. 70% of the patients was effective. Mild side effects were reported in only 2 cases.
